Puss in Boots, a daring rogue, learns that his love of danger and contempt for safety has taken a toll in DreamWorks Animation’s first new adventure in the Shrek universe in more than a decade. Puss lost track of how many lives he had left after using up eight of them. Puss in Boots will embark on his most ambitious mission ever in order to get those lives back.

DreamWorks Animation and the Shrek series both go in fascinating new directions in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. With the help of breathtaking animation that combines 3D and 2D effects and a painterly technique that gives the movie a distinct look, this spaghetti western-inspired narrative of an aged cowboy on one more adventure with some quite serious themes follows him on his last adventure.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Release Date

A Puss in Boots sequel was announced to be made back in 2018. After four years, a definite release date for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has been set: September 23, 2022. The movie was later postponed one more, this time to December 21, 2022, just in time for Christmas.

The Trailers: 

The movie’s teaser, which shows the furry hero protecting his tiny town of San Ricardo from a powerful adversary and recalling the countless valiant ways he has utilized the preceding eight of his nine lives, was released by Universal Pictures on March 15, 2022. Puss’ terrible shellfish allergy and his ravenous appetite for adventure, not his curiosity, were what finally led to his demise. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ second peek was made available to the viewers on June 15, 2022. Fans may get a better idea of the movie’s plot from the trailer, which shows how Puss, everyone’s beloved feline, falls from grace and decides to move in with an elderly woman and her many cats. He meets Perro, a therapy dog dressed as a cat, there and develops an unexpected bond with him. Things deteriorate and Puss is forced to reconcile with Kitty Softpaws, his ex-girlfriend when Goldilocks and the three bears send bounty hunters to search him.

On November 15, 2022, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’s third and maybe final trailer debuted online. With an “All-Star” needle-drop by Smash Mouth and an appearance by the sole and only Gingy, the trailer plays up the movie’s connections to the Shrek universe. The film also expands on Puss’ purported “final wish,” which he supposedly hopes to fulfill before his life runs out.

Who Joins the Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Cast as New Cast?

The voice of Puss’ new foe, Goldilocks, will be provided by actress Florence Pugh, best known for playing Dani, the lead, in the exciting 2019 horror film Midsommar. This will be Pugh’s first voice-acting role.

As a new travel companion for Puss & Kitty Softpaws in the sequel, Harvey Guillén will provide his vocal to Perro, a scruffy dog. You probably recognize Guillén from the 2013 film The Internship, when he played the endearingly clumsy Zach. 

“Big” will be voiced by comedian John Mulaney. Samson Kayo will play Baby Bear, Da’Vine Joy Randolph will play Mama Luna, Wagner Moura will play the Big Bad Wolf, Ray Winstone will play Papa Bear, and Anthony Mendez will play an unspecified part in the animated film directed by Jack Horner.

Cast’s comeback from original Puss in Boots cast for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

The gazpacho-loving gato will be played by Antonio Banderas once more in the upcoming Puss in Boots sequel. Since the previous Puss in Boots film, the Spanish actor has made multiple appearances in films and on television, most recently portraying the brutal Santiago Moncada in the Uncharted film. It’s interesting to note that the multilingual actor not only provided the vocal of Puss for the Spanish and Italian versions of the films, but also for the original English versions.

As Kitty Softpaws, Puss’s rival and love interest, Salma Hayek will return in the role. She is a cunning female feline who is a skilled swordswoman and master manipulator. She is also skilled with words. For her portrayal of Frida Kahlo in the 2002 movie Frida, Hayek, an outstanding actor, is renowned. 

What Is Puss in Boots: The Last Wish About?

Since the original Puss in Boots hit theaters 11 years ago, the Shrek saga has experienced a bit of a comeback, to put it mildly, thanks to countless internet memes. It’s odd that DreamWorks hasn’t yet revisited the Far, Far Away mythical world. Up to the release of the eagerly anticipated successor Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which brings back the cat with the sword who is voiced by Antonio Banderas.

Puss in Boots is in the midst of an existential crisis when the movie opens, several years after the events of the previous movie, after realizing that he has used up all nine of his life. For the first time in life, Puss in Boots is terrified of dying rather than the Big Bad Wolf who seems to be a supernatural being. Having lost, Puss settles in with an elderly woman named Mama Luna who takes in a lot of stray cats. Puss, who has been made to live like a cat, meets Perro, a tenacious small dog wearing a sock jumper that has been living unwelcomely with the rodents under Mama Luna’s house. When Puss receives a bounty, a number of evil characters, including “Big” Jack Horner and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, pursue him. Puss, who has been estranged from Kitty Softpaws since the events of the previous movie, re-emerges, further complicating the situation. After discovering of the shooting star that can grant him additional lives, Puss, Kitty, and Perro embark on a mad quest to obtain it before their foes do.

Final Words 

The movie is unexpectedly a lot more ambitious and sophisticated than one might anticipate; it chooses to go deeply into topics of mortality and facing death, going beyond the lessons you might anticipate from your usual family movie. While the overall plot may be predictable, the places it goes while advising it almost seem like it’s approaching the adults or those who were born and raised with the Shrek movies rather than the younger viewers that weren’t even born when the previous movie hit the big screen.
