The 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Marvels is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 28th, 2023, initiating the start of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Captain Marvel 2 is officially known as The Marvels. Captain Marvel 2 is an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters present in the first sequels, with the main characters being Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan aka Captain Marvel 2, and Monica Rambeau too. It is both, the continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel released in 2022, and also a sequel to captain Marvel which was released back in 2019.
Fans suggest that the MCU has taken long enough to release, it was to be released in 2022 however due to some certain delays the movie’s release date was set for the 28th of July in 2023. Whilst the film is being produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Nia DaCosta directed it from a screenplay done exclusively by Megan McDonnell.
After the confirmation from Marvel Studios regarding plans to make a sequel to Captain Marvel 2 in July 2019, the team started the development in January 2020. During the same time, McDonnell became a part of the team and Larson was set to return. DaCosta too was hired in August 2022, and in December Vellani and Parris were hired and also became members of the team.
The filming was divided into units, the 2nd unit of filming began in mid-April 2021 the location being none other than New Jersey. The title was revealed in early May. Principal photography had begun by early August 2021 and concluded by mid-May 2022, taking place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Long cross Studios in Surrey, England, as well as in Los Angeles and Tropea, Italy.

Cast :
As expected for a sequel the cast was the same as the previous sequel to maintain the integrity of the movie and because the actors playing their respective characters are all fan favorites, they are adored by the fans because they play the roles so effortlessly and the outcomes are to be praised for. The cast remained almost the same concerning the main characters as listed in the list below:
- Brie Larson, the main lead character was cast again as Carol Danvers or more famously known as Captain Marvel 2 who was an Avenger and ex-U.S. As related in the first sequel Carol was an Air Force fighter pilot whose DNA was altered during an accident, imbuing him with superhuman strength, energy projection, and flight.
- Iman Vellani was cast as Ms. Marvel or Kamala Khan from the Disney+ Series. In the movie, she plays the role of a teenager from Jersey City who idolizes Danvers, with the ability to harness cosmic energy and create constructs with a magical bangle.
- Teyonah Parris was cast as Monica Rambeau again being a lead character, the sequel owes it to her.
She plays the very important role of an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and the daughter of Danvers’ friend and fellow airman, Maria Rambeau, who as a child admired Danvers, and she can absorb energy. Parris noted that The Marvels would provide the opportunity to “further understand” Rambeau after what had been established in Wanda Vision (2021). - Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. In the movie, he played the role of the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who is working with the Skrulls in deep space?
- Apart from the main characters, many others were included in the team such as Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur reprising their respective roles as Khan’s older brother Aamir, mother Muneeba, and father Yusuf, from Ms. Marvel from the Disney+ Series. Zawe Ashton has been cast in an undisclosed villain role, with Park Seo-Joon also cast in an undisclosed role.
So much for the release of Captain Marvel 2, fans depict this too to be a blockbuster movie and win their hearts over again by the storyline and the plot which twists and turns, that being the most appreciated feature of the Marvel produced movies.

The most important effect of the movie, the music, the soul of the movie was composed in January 2022 by Laura Karpman who was specifically hired to compose the score for the film, after displaying the impressive work done in the previous movies such as the first season of the MCU television series What If…? (2021) and Ms. Marvel back in 2022. Her remarkable work will be seen as evidence supporting the uphold of the film.
Pre-production work of the movie started in 2022 in February only when Zawe Ashton was cast as the film’s villain with which the cast was almost finalized. Even though the principal photography was expected to begin at the end of May it was later revealed by sources that some second unit filming began on the 9th of April in Jersey City, New Jersey, under the working title Goat Rodeo, this was done specifically to capture aerial footage of the set, establishing shots and finalizing the best angels for the scenes to be shot from, and green screen plates to assist with certain more creative or fictional parts of the movie.
In May of 2022, Marvel Studios decided to reveal that the sequel would be titled The Marvels instead of Captain Marvel 2 because it suited the main characters more, taking into consideration now that Captain Marvel 2 too was being cast in the movie now. For fans, the plot seems very stimulating and revolting with the two forces of good being together fans are very excited to see how the movie turns around and the trailer has revealed the thrill even more in the audience who await the release of the movie whilst also complaining that they took too long to release this sequel.
